A grab bar screwed into drywall with plastic anchors will pull out of the wall the first time someone really needs it. We install bars the way they're meant to hold: into a stud or into solid blocking we add behind the wall — in tile, fiberglass surrounds, or drywall.
Grab bars are the fastest, cheapest fall-prevention fix a bathroom can get — if they're installed correctly. We locate studs, open the wall and add blocking when there isn't one where the bar needs to go, drill tile without cracking it, seal every penetration so water never gets behind the surround, and set bars at the heights that match how the person actually moves: one horizontal bar along the shower wall, a vertical bar at the entry, an angled bar at the tub, and a bar beside the toilet. Designer finishes, not hospital chrome. Most installs are a half-day, and we can usually fit them in the same week you call.

Yes. There's a hollow gap behind most surrounds, so the bar needs to reach the stud or blocking behind it, with the penetration sealed. Suction-cup bars are not a substitute — they let go.
Typically a horizontal bar on the long wall at about 33–36 inches, a vertical bar at the entry, and an angled bar on the tub wall if there's a tub. Beside the toilet, a bar on the side wall or a swing-up bar. We set the final heights with the person who'll use them.
